OUR HISTORY

Blackfeet Outfitters, established in 2007, is owned and operated by Alger Swingley, a Blackfeet Tribal member of Montana. Alger’s exclusive and rich cultural background of hunting and fishing adventures of 40 years is very valuable for the guest experience and success rate in the pursuit of fish and game. His personal travels, business experience, and 25 years of guiding and 11 years of outfitting experience led him to achieve his lifelong dream of becoming a professional hunting and fishing outfitter. Living within the boundaries of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation provided Swingley with exceptional hunting and fishing opportunities and familiarity with the Blackfeet Indian Reservation and Helena Lewis and Clark National Forest Badger Two Medicine area and game habitat. Since becoming a state licensed outfitter, Swingley focuses his operations on state lands to include guided hunting and fishing.

As an enrolled Blackfeet Tribal Member, Swingley promotes the essential understanding about the Blackfeets’ distinct and unique cultural heritage. Understanding Native traditional beliefs, preserving the language and spirituality is of genuine importance to Swingley. It is Swingley’s sincere desire to see his fellow Blackfeet People succeed by removing barriers, obstacles, and challenges that hinder the Blackfeet people’s success both on and off the reservation. From generation to generation the Blackfeet Tribe shared traditions and values. These traditions and values gave Swingley the key to preserve the Blackfeet culture through resilience, honestly, humility, and generosity.

A servant leader, Swingley is a governor-appointed board member of the Montana Tourism Advisory Council. As a board member, Swingley represents all of the tribal nations in Montana for economic development and tourism. Swingley is also a member of Montana Outfitter and Guides Association and a member of the American Indian Alaska Native Tourism Association. In addition he is a certified interpretive guide under the National Association for Interpretation (NAI). Swingley centers his business on ensuring that his clients come first and building community relations with local entities. Swingley supports the promotion of sustainable tourism and state-tribal economic development in Montana.

Blackfeet Outfitters is a proud supporter of the Make A Wish Foundation and Big Hearts Under the Big Sky which is a Montana Outfitter and Guides Association (MOGA) charitable partnership program. We’ve donated many hand-made quilts to the banquet auction and to the recipients of Big Hearts Under the Big Sky. We have hosted some amazing families for unforgettable fishing trips and we look forward to hosting more. All guides are certified as Emergency Medical Responders (EMR).

Swingley maintains NREMT and state certification as a Paramedic.
